The fundamental cause of homelessness is the widening housing affordability gap, economic stability, mental health issues, and substance dependency. As housing affordability has worsened, in the past ten years, local, state, and federal governments have cut back on housing assistance for low-income people and have reduced investments in building and preserving affordable housing.
Incarceration instead of Education is happening
Policies are on often focused on “zero tolerance” instead of achievement and encourage suspended students to drop out, pushing many into criminal activity and increasing the pipeline to prison
